How to become a fork lift operator - OSHA Training Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, we do “on-site” OSHA compliant forklift operator safety training at customer locations for $159 per operator, with a minimum billing of 5 attendees, 24/7. Call to schedule your class today!

Forklifts are an essential part of business, but jumping in the seat of one without certification won’t just risk a fine, you could be risking your life.

Forklifts cause 85 fatalities and almost 35,000 serious injuries every year. Inadequate training plays a role in approximately one-quarter of those accidents, and operations in Las Vegas are no different. Make sure you’re protecting yourself and your business by getting certified.

Why Get Certified?

Forklifts are essential to getting your building job done efficiently and safely. On top of efficiency, operating a forklift without proper certification could cost thousands in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), with severe negligence driving the price skyward. Even if you’ve earned certification in the past, you may need to recertify every three years. Perhaps even sooner if you’re involved in an accident or using a variety of lifts.

Certification Requirements

To become a certified forklift operator you must take the certification course. The certification comes with a three-tiered system:

  • Formal instruction: Lectures, videos and instruction can lay the groundwork in operator training. You’ll learn general safety principles, hazards to watch out for and OSHA guidelines before you step into the real deal. At the end of the classroom section, you’ll move on to hands-on operation.
  • Practical training: Demonstrations can help show you how to handle a forklift and how to follow precautionary measures. Once you have a firm grasp of the basics, supervised practice and exercises help you achieve the standard for day-to-day operations.
  • Evaluation: Your trainer will oversee your progress and make sure you’ve got a solid grasp on rules, best practices and safety precautions. If you can safely operate a forklift to OSHA standards, then you could become a certified forklift driver.
